hey guys, i've been using ubuntu time, running 9.10 on old(ish) dell desktop. i've plugged in 32" tv monitor , reason, display stuck inside ubuntu @ 800x600 or lower (4:3 ratio). inside ubuntu, because black , white splash screen before brown 1 loading bar displays @ 1280x1024, , windows xp (which keep itunes) runs quite happily @ higher resolutions. tv designed 1920x1080 , shouldn't problem. followed steps of this thread here @ step 5, terminal tells me max resolution 800x600 , not proceed further. i'm not confident enough craft entirely new xorg.conf file, , getting display should be. many in advance, cilionelle bumping this... or not... bumping disabled? how can ubuntu 10 recognize , mount external floppy? i feel i've locked myself out of own computer. whole story long , boring, windows 7 has been bugging out , irritating me, decided switch ubuntu. in past i've done booting live cd; on laptop, cd drive works way should, more i've done booting live flash drive. neither of these options worked time, though. in case of live cd, computer didn't recognize existence , breezed right on it. in case of live usb, gave me unhelpful "bootmgr missing, ctrl+alt+del restart" message , refused go further. yes, boot process correctly configured. yes, disc , usb both burned correctly (the former @ 2x speed through nero on separate computer working drive, , latter using unetbootin.) despairing of chances, booted windows, found did indeed recognize live cd in drive (even though wouldn't boot it.) decided install ubuntu using wubi own little 10gb partition, thinking later format windows partition away , expand ubuntu partition fill whole hard drive.

hi, when go ubuntu.com using firefox, takes 3 seconds load. when use chrome, loads instantly. in fact, site visit, firefox stutters few seconds , downloads. download speed not affected, it's latency. also, when use work wifi (cisco systems), latency issue goes away. use netopia router @ home. also: when try make ssh connection via command line, similar latency issues. takes 3 or 4 seconds server ask password, whereas if i'm on wired connection, asks straight away. incredibly annoying , don't know how fix it. i'm suspecting dns issue or maybe ipv6 confusion? ok, solved web browser. it's ipv6 issue... about :config network.dns.disableipv6 = true can suggest how can disable ipv6 don't have wait 10 seconds each time want create ssh connection?
