Thread: Screen resolution stuck at 800x600

hey guys,

i've been using ubuntu time, running 9.10 on old(ish) dell desktop. i've plugged in 32" tv monitor , reason, display stuck inside ubuntu @ 800x600 or lower (4:3 ratio). inside ubuntu, because black , white splash screen before brown 1 loading bar displays @ 1280x1024, , windows xp (which keep itunes) runs quite happily @ higher resolutions. tv designed 1920x1080 , shouldn't problem.

followed steps of this thread here @ step 5, terminal tells me max resolution 800x600 , not proceed further. i'm not confident enough craft entirely new xorg.conf file, , getting display should be.

many in advance,
cilionelle
