Thread: Ubuntu 9.10//XP//problem grub bootloader

regards.
installed windows xp2 4 partition on harddisk.
ubuntu live cd gparted deleted 1 partition , made unallocated , install ubuntu 9.10 there.
since grub bootloader problem there.
initial option choose os there. when select linux can enter in it. when choose windows xp following error message coming---
"error : invalid signature"
when press key returns menu. when select xp , press "e" message comes...
"insmod ntfs
drivemap -s (hd0) ${root}
chain loader +1"
according 1 tutorial

booted windows xp cd , repaired "fixboot" , "fixmbr".
worked. winxp working grub menu not there choose os. directly opens winxp. no trace of ubuntu.
recover grub booted live ubuntu cd , ran in terminal
"sudo mkdir /media/sda7
sudo mount /dev/sda7 /media/sda7"
, then
"sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/sda7 /dev/sda"
, worked. grub menu there select os. can access ubuntu not xp. xp's probblem returns described above.
point can 1 os either ubuntu or win. pls b/c want , need both os.
