Thread: Virtualbox 3.2.8 problems
hi all,
hope haven't missed being posted - apologise if so, couldn't find
decided today update old install of virtualbox ose , install new 3.2.8 version - usb support.
thought best remove old version first did sudo apt-get remove virtualbox-ose, , autoremove in case else needed removing.
followed instructions on virtualbox website install new version - add software source, register key , install dkms , virtualbox 3.2.8 via terminal instructed. seemed go fine.
cannot start - there no launcher on system (i'm running 10.04 nbr) , trying run command "virtualbox" in terminal results in error "the package not installed - install using sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose".... 1 removed.
did miss/do wrong? or not possible install newer ones on system had old 1 installed?
help!!!
in advance.
a couple of options:
1) rather installing oracle's repsoitry, download ubuntu .deb file fomr oracle webpage computer , install using that. method has worked me every time.
2) missing icons appear if reboot.
3) can manually add icon. right click on applications menu, , choose edit. window open can add/remove/move icons. select folder want, click "new", , enter details want. "command" entry should able add "virtualbox" (no quotes) make work.
4) in old versons of ubuntu use following commands fix applications menu. not know if still works in 10.04
i'd add not in specific order - pick , choose see best (or wait more knwledgable reply).code:sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install menu menu-xdg update-menus
