Shades of a global color

it's easy create tints of global color, , how if global color changed, tints well. why can't same shades? great timesaver shading & highlights on artwork might change color.

tints reduce percentages of color's existing component primaries, both spot , process colors. assuming subtractive color (cmyk document), creating shades of spot colors--and of process colors not containing k--would require addition of k (or complementary primary, etc.) in case of spot colors, result wouldn't spot color more. in case of process colors, encounter ambiguities similar affecting black generation in rgb-to-cmyk conversion: there myriad ways generate k, there many ways darken color.

in other words, creating tints simple , unambiguous matter of decreasing existing percentages. creating shades not simple matter of increasing percentages, , have deal color-specific ambiguities.
