PC Build (Many thanks to Harm's articles)

hello all.

 

for past months i've been reading lot hardware building new system. started few months while reading harm's excellent guide:a pc buying guide nle (mainly intel)i read  to raid or not raid, question , few more of great articles. printed , marked it. led me read other forum threads, , other sites, , made own list. lot of work!!! learned lot! i'm not sure i'll next build, anyhow i've learned lot , i'm go computer folks more knowledgeable customer knows buy. thank harm millard!

 

anyhow, i'd hear few opinions. here's plan:

 

a system production premium cs4 (will upgrade in few years or when feel there need, not right now), editing dv , possibly hd formats (not uncompressed)

cpu: i7930

 

mobo: gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r

ram: 6/9/12 gb ram

win 7 pro.

 

disk setup:

1. os &programs  (500 gb)

2. backed captured/imported media  (raid0 2x 500 gb)

3. scratch (media cache, preview files). (raid 0 2 x 500gb) exports?

4. projects, digital media, media created project, exports [(500 gb) or 1 tb?]

5. miscellaneous. (500 gb)

 

using these disks:

· samsung hd103sj 1tb sata 2 32mbspinpoint f3 – 

·   samsung spinpoint f3 hd502hj,500gb,7200rpm,16 mb cache

 

gpu

·   nvidiagtx-285/280/275/260/250  

or

·   nvidia9800gx2 or 8800gts 

or

·   quadrofx 580 or quadro fx 1800


my questions are:

  • how ram?

3x2gb ram=6gb - enough?is true if want 12gb ram better buy set of 12 , not 2 sets of 6? set of 3x2gb ram=6 + 3x1gb ram= 9gb?

  • what think disk setup?

i planned way no crucial unrecoverable file on risky raid0. think perhaps first export files raid array speed, , afterwards, transfer non raid disk. disk sizes right? 500 gb or 1tb no.4 (projects, digital media , export)?

  • gpu

a card enough for cs4: premiere,after effects, photoshop, flash , rest of suite. no need cuda approved cards @ moment. think open gl relevant after effects. still have check availability , real prices on cards. recommend?


 

extra smaller questions of preference:

what's preferences regarding adobe keyboard vs. stickers vs. regular keyboard?

what's preferred monitor set up? 2 small ones or 1 big screen?

is firewire 800 card useful you?

 

 

any opinions or comments of great value!!! thank in advance!

as far know, cs4 not use gpu of anything... ati card enough video memory work

for nvidia, gtx 2xx line "old" (the 285 no longer made) , gtx 470 "usually" recommended now

 

for multiple drives in raid, plus allow nvidia's power requirements if go route, need @ least 1000watt power supply

cf_sql_integer vs cf_sql_bigint vs cf_sql_int??

i have id (primary key) set bigint in sql server. have query following: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_integer" value="#url.id#"> i got invalid data type it. tried: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_bigint" value="#url.id#"> i still got invalid data type it. tried: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_int" value="#url.id#"> and worked. the weird thing cf_sql_int not listed being accepted: http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/coldfusion/5.0/cfml_reference/tags79.htm can explain me. > whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_bigint" value="#url.id#"> what value of #url.id#? had no problems either using cf8. > weird thing cf_sql_int not listed being accepted: iirc, when pass in invalid sql type cf uses default: cf_sql_char, accepts anything. ms sql implicit convert() right type , why works. hi, i'm starting , address http://localhost/joomla15/administrator doesn't work (it stays blank, no error or anything). wonder if have change in address or somewhere else. joomla installed through web-host dreamhost.com , didn't have much. i appreciate help. silvia http://localhost tells browser not go out internet use localized web server installed on pc. lack of better description, localized web server doing coding , test site development on local pc using software turns pc "local" web server; hence, term - localhost. you mentioned dreamhost.com installing joomla. assume mean installed joomla on hosting account? so need access joomla installation by: http://www.yourdomain.com/joomla15/administrator Board index Joomla!
