Thread: webcam-server (Again....)

hi,

downloaded , installed ubuntu package webcam-server.
problem can´t work. black rectangle text: connecting, please wait, , red dot below text.
(this when trying reach webcam page on internet, local not possible since server, not desktop installation)

of course i´ve been googling around bit , found several posts, none of them had solution.

i´m running ubuntu 10.04 server (so no gui stuff available), webcam old philips pcvc740k.
if use streamer capture image perfect picture, camera working.

webcam-server running on port 8888 (and yes, have opened port in router outside world, although i´m not sure necessary).
there no firewall running on server (for now, during testphase).

have tried entering localip of server in webcam.html page. no luck.
have tried entering fqdn in webcam.htmlpage. no luck either.
when open page, webcam-server logfile not show connection remote.
there´s different behaviour in different browsers.
opening webcam page ff, rectangle red cross, , in statusbar text loading java applet failed.
java console in ff says:

java(tm) plug-in 1.5.0
using jre version 1.5.0 ibm j9 vm

when opening same page ie8, beforementioned black rectangle, , java console shows cannot explain either:

looks there security problem somewhere, cannot put finger on exact problem.

suggestions welcome.
if knows of other webcam streaming software (apart fromt obvious zoneminder , motion) can run on server without x, i´l interested well.

thanks,

hans

p.s.
1 more potential important piece of information:
have rigged apache2 config in such away connections on http automatically redirected https.

bump ?
