Thread: Virtual box not working

see info in signature re system.

have 10.04, w/updates, , vbox worked fine until recently. when start get couple of error messages:

failed open session virtual machine ffpxp.
virtual machine 'ffpxp' has terminated unexpectedly during startup exit code 1. (the result code detailed info statement)

second 1 pops up:

kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

virtualbox linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) either not loaded or there permission problem /dev/vboxdrv. please reinstall kernel module executing

'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

root. users of ubuntu, fedora or mandriva should install dkms package first. package keeps track of linux kernel changes , recompiles vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.


have downloaded newer version, , tried install it, same message every time try says "denied. permission required" etc.

have several programs in vbox need. os in vbox winxp , required cell phone , several others use website , other "office" needs.

suggestions?

as per error message - there may problem vboxdrv file. have run requested command in terminal?

what procedure installing newer versions way? double-click on newer *.deb file downloaded oracle virtualbox.org site.

"permission denied" error message may hold clue follow. perhaps should gain root user privileges using sudo if install via terminal.
