Dreamweaver CS5 > Frames > Linking
hi everybody,
i'm new dreamweaver cs5, , not familiar i'm learning step step. anyways, i'm working on website right , i'm hitting brick wall. i've tried searching site why i'm having problem, , answers came across different versions of dreamweaver; wasn't sure if apply me.
i decided create website utilizes frames. i've read frames "evil" quite frankly, suit needs. i've got frame structure follows :
leftframe.html (not blank page; has menu's on it. information static.)
topframe.hmtl (has text in it. information static.)
mainframe.html (this appropriate document should load. information dynamic.)
index2.html (this frame definition)
index.html (home page)
when visit index.html, point "index2.html" (this frame[s] i'm working on primarily). when click on 1 of menu's in left pane (leftframe.html), create link "products-services.html". i've tried various target options (blank, new, parent, self, top) however, can't seem link in manner open up/load in appropriate frame (mainframe.html).
any ideas?
frames evil. pay large price decision. price include -
- search engines cannot index site - potential loss of visitors
- each frame can carry own scrollbars - potential loss of layout when browser text size changed
- when indexed @ all, each frame indexed if independent page - potential huge visitor confusion when click on search hit , discover have arrived @ content page without corresponding navigation frame
- they 90's
any ideas?
yes. each frame must both named , given id. dw's support frames has been severely truncated since 90's because method badly in disrepute, , dw doesn't give ability name frame - have in code view. target menu links specifying name of frame load link's targeted file. in other words, using dw in design view, cannot want. *good* thing, really.
