Thread: GParted disk format to use for multi platform network drive

pretty new ubuntu , practicing on old desktop file print , domain controller work home business while build , configure linux server. question follows:
have laptop running windows 7, wife has macpro running snow leopard, kids have desk top running ubuntu 10.04, have 500gb additional disk in spare desktop want use netork drive will:
1) win 7 backup location laptop
2) store backups of large photoshop files , other graphicsy type stuff wifes macpro.
3) act shared directory of us
4) store large multimedia files, mpegs etc
best disk partition format - restricted ntfs due requirements store win 7 backup files
secondly can point me in direction of url getting samba permissions sorted windows 7, kids pc dual boots win xp , ubuntu 10.04 win xp no problem network in win 7 can see shares in network map permission errors both ubuntu pc , win 7 laptop. of files , manuals deal 98/me/xp , not windows vista / 7 can find.
