i'm 6 months joomla 2 web sites , 2 more planned. have realized weaknesses of joomla's content management group definitions maintaining content on site. assumed during development able assign editors submit/edit articles previewed publisher before being published. nope. can't done. administrator can receive notification of article submission. worse that, editors can edit any content published, including own articles, , changes published without notification or overview anyone! totally taken surprise find not assign editors edit or submit articles 'parked' until publisher review them before publishing. have novice editors need have work reviewed. not want put burden on administrator, , don't want assign else backend privileges. i'm late put in request changes in 1.6. hope has been done fix issue.

second, have struggled mind around section/category/article/menu item. think have now, , understand criticisms read no subcategories in joomla! here's take-home message far can see. every article must point menu item rendered. if want "submission of articles registered users" have meaning, means articles should linked category menu item. otherwise, 1 has create new menu item each new article submitted, seemingly silly idea. means if have 2 levels of menus, in suckerfish design, want (bottom up) articles ->category menu item ->section menu item (at top level). if have 3 levels in menu, each menu item in 3rd level need point single article, in case, "submission of new articles" have no meaning (unless wanted create new 3rd level menu item each new submitted article). i've done lot of reading these past 3 months, , nobody has pointed out. but, maybe missing something.

so, wish 2 things in future revision of joomla : a) subcategories (or more 2 levels in hierarchy) , b) more flexible way of limiting registered user groups can , how notification of edit takes place.

yes, know. there plugins out there @ least part b) above, make sense have built joomla! framework.

if post in wrong place, apologize , move it.

ahhh. state others have been saying months. there news. forthcoming joomla 1.6 solve of issues/gripes current 1.5.x acl, better categories , have sub-categories.

individual articles not need tied menu item in order rendered. if have menu item set blog style layout pull specific category, 1 menu item list of category's articles.

keep in mind joomla framework cannot possibly satisfy out of box. why there such extensive list of developers , extensions. joomla developers have listened community , looking forward 1.6.

in meantime, 2 extensions (amongst others) aide in acl , publishing rights in 1.5.x juga , corephp.com.

cf_sql_integer vs cf_sql_bigint vs cf_sql_int??

i have id (primary key) set bigint in sql server. have query following: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_integer" value="#url.id#"> i got invalid data type it. tried: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_bigint" value="#url.id#"> i still got invalid data type it. tried: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_int" value="#url.id#"> and worked. the weird thing cf_sql_int not listed being accepted: http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/coldfusion/5.0/cfml_reference/tags79.htm can explain me. > whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_bigint" value="#url.id#"> what value of #url.id#? had no problems either using cf8. > weird thing cf_sql_int not listed being accepted: iirc, when pass in invalid sql type cf uses default: cf_sql_char, accepts anything. ms sql implicit convert() right type , why works. hi, i'm starting , address http://localhost/joomla15/administrator doesn't work (it stays blank, no error or anything). wonder if have change in address or somewhere else. joomla installed through web-host dreamhost.com , didn't have much. i appreciate help. silvia http://localhost tells browser not go out internet use localized web server installed on pc. lack of better description, localized web server doing coding , test site development on local pc using software turns pc "local" web server; hence, term - localhost. you mentioned dreamhost.com installing joomla. assume mean installed joomla on hosting account? so need access joomla installation by: http://www.yourdomain.com/joomla15/administrator Board index Joomla!
