Thread: Overlapped Partition Tables, Bad MBR, won't boot
i've been trying install 10-4 dual boot osx month; have tried on 2 different intel macs, using external drive , internal hd. have followed different installation scenarios, clear , lucid instructions here.
<https://help.ubuntu.com/community/mactelsupportteam/appleintelinstallation>
in every case, has proceeded right boot time, when go refit partition tool sync partition tables. "mbr table invalid, overlap" condition. , indeed mbr table ides appear hosed. ubuntu not boot.
here refit map:
gpt table
# start end type
1 1 409639 efi system (fat)
2 409640 568714015 mac os x hfs+
3 568715264 568717311 grub2 bios boot
4 568717312 960145407 basic data
5 960145408 976773119 linux swap
mbr table
1 1 409639 ee efi protective
2 * 409640 568714015 af mac osx hfs+
3 1 568717311 ee efi protective
4 568717312 568145407 83 linux
(i tried space above proper columns - multiple spaces not retained.)
i'm new ubuntu, have no experience linux, , aside live cd have no linux running here. appreciate suggestions …

did shrink mac partition in os x before installing, or did in ubuntu installer?
if did in ubuntu installer, try shrink os x
did check ubuntu cd's hashes (md5,sha1)? if not, try redownlaod iso , checking hashes time. wiped entire hd once because of bad fedora iso, , had use testdisk back.
also, why seprate boot partition (i'm guessing thats labeled "grub2 bios boot") machines build in last few years don't need them, , if need one, needs go @ front of disk.
