Thread: 10.04 /proc/asound disappeared

i in serious trouble.

sound switched dummy output again. last time happened, reinstalled alsa using alsaupgradescript.sh

when tried
aplay -l
output was:
aplay: device_list:235: no soundcards found..

so.. tried using alsaupgradescript.sh using -c switch, gave me
code:
rm -f .depend *.o snd.map* rm -f modules/*.o modules/*.ko make: *** include: no such file or directory. stop. make: *** [clean] error 1 checking gcc... gcc checking c compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether c compiler works... yes checking whether cross compiling... no checking suffix of executables... checking suffix of object files... o checking whether using gnu c compiler... yes checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes checking gcc option accept iso c89... none needed checking ranlib... ranlib configure: error: cannot find install-sh or install.sh in "." "./.." "./../.."
so, went through of helps available in internet. used this:

code:
cat /proc/asound/version cat: /proc/asound/version: no such file or directory
i realized don't have asound folder inside /proc when browsed via nautilus , terminal.

using acer aspire 4745

here alsa information script link

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=3c...f5651508a88975

tried using oss, worked. didn't feel flexible enough. example , had manually change whether output given in both internal , external devices or that.

can please help?

edit: sound settings before problem are:

command1:
cat /proc/asound/version

output:
quote:
code:
advanced linux sound architecture driver version 1.0.23. compiled on jul 29 2010 kernel 2.6.32-24-generic (smp).

command2:$ aplay -l
quote:
code:
**** list of playback hardware devices **** card 0: intel [hda intel], device 0: alc271x analog [alc271x analog] subdevices: 1/1 subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: intel [hda intel], device 1: alc271x digital [alc271x digital] subdevices: 1/1 subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: intel [hda intel], device 3: intel hdmi 0 [intel hdmi 0] subdevices: 1/1 subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: intel [hda intel], device 7: intel hdmi 1 [intel hdmi 1] subdevices: 1/1 subdevice #0: subdevice #0
and @ last line of alsa-base.conf,

alright. confused.

sound back. not sure made come back. did 3 things.

1. edited /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf , added options snd-hda-intel model=auto
2. reverted latest alsa installation, using sudo ./alsaupgrade-1.0.23-2.sh -r
3. rebooted plugging out headphone headphone-in port.

can listen sounds using internal speakers. , when plugin headphone, neither speaker nor headphone works.

btw, aplay -l gives
code:
aplay -l **** list of playback hardware devices **** card 0: intel [hda intel], device 0: alc259 analog [alc259 analog] subdevices: 0/1 subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: intel [hda intel], device 1: alc259 digital [alc259 digital] subdevices: 1/1 subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: intel [hda intel], device 3: intel hdmi 0 [intel hdmi 0] subdevices: 1/1 subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: intel [hda intel], device 7: intel hdmi 1 [intel hdmi 1] subdevices: 1/1 subdevice #0: subdevice #0
and cat /proc/asound/version gives:

code:
advanced linux sound architecture driver version 1.0.22.1. compiled on aug 10 2010 kernel 2.6.32-24-generic (smp).
i going reinstall latest alsa files again.... wish me luck if creates problem again.... stick speakers >.<
