hello:

have few questions ubuntu:

1. can length of time used auto time-out (lock) feature lengthened?
i assuming mean screensaver requires password when come back. can go system>preferences>screen saver change amount of time let pass before starts.
2. there difference between document file created ms word , document created oo word?
yes, both file formats different, oo can read , save both formats, while microsoft office handles own formats , not odt (as far know). unless send odt file has oo installed, won't able read it. check file>save menu change file formats; there word 98/2000/xp format works well.
3. wine (or virtualbox or vmware) require windows os still exist on pc launch windows applications?
wine doesn't require windows; stands on it's own. virtualbox/vmware virtual machines. think of them fake computers can install os on top of. treats os if it's application, in sense, , these machines totally separate windows installations may have on computer.
4. there performance advantages gained deleting installed programs not use?
eh, depends on program in question. if it's service, runs in background time, might consider removing it. otherwise, if it's not running @ all, won't matter if it's installed or not (usually). same thing goes windows really: if it's not running, it's not slowing machine down because cpu isn't being tasked anything.
5. synaptic package manager delete all files , directories during its' uninstall process.
sometimes few files left behind (such user preferences). if want these wiped out well, it's best use command in terminal:

sudo apt-get purge packagename
6. there advantages (aside increasing disk space) or disadvantages (aside direct boot ubuntu) in deleting windows xp computer?
no, not really. dual-boot hearts content.
