hello, everyone.
read quotes lot (i can spend few hours in internet browsing random sites of quotes easily!). so, i've been wanting put quotes wallpaper instead of images, , want quote change periodically.
looked software (write text wallpaper instead of using image), couldn't find it. figured way that:
using conky , setting black wallpaper, can simulate behavior.
conky executes line of command extracts random line file , displays on screen. file has quote per line. conky placed right in center of screen.
i'm using conky 1.0.8.0 (from ubuntu repositories).
using following .conkyrc:
this way, quote stick around 10 minutes , replaced one, random. may need modify configuration file depending on screen resolution.code:alignment middle_middle background true format_human_readable use_xft xftfont arial:size=30 no_buffers yes update_interval 1 double_buffer no_buffers yes max_text_width 0 text ${execi 600 random_line /home/jpmelos/quotes}
using following script random_line:
just put in file, name file random_line , docode:#!/bin/bash counter=$(wc -l < $1) counter=$(($(($random%$counter))+1)) cat $1 | head -n $counter | tail -n 1 | fold -s -w50
and here quotes file use:code:sudo mv random_line /usr/bin/random_line sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/random_line
