incorrect assumptions about hard drive requirements
for last several months (release of cs5 , prior)
i have received numerous sales calls (just got off phone again) after people have read forum under assumption
1) needed expesnive raid card
2) needed 8-12 drive raid array.
3)temp file drives/cache drives
people incorrect 95% of adobe users.
of has been covered our friend harm reiterate!
technically can run dv/hdv/avchd/xdcam os drive (not recommended @ all)
absolute bare minimum should 3 drive set up
1) os
2) single work/capture/project drive (what ever want call it) (112mb/s)
3) single render to/final output/export (name will)
this need dv/hdv (anything ingested via firewire) !
ideal avchd/xdcam/p2 etc (and depending red footage 4 layer , less)
1) os
2) set of 2 drives raid 0 (195+ mb/s)
3) set of 2 drives raid 0
both on onboard raid controller
anything beyond complete , absolute waste of money above formats
this covers 80% of adobe users
red4k more 4 layers , uncompressed
good raid card (intel, areca)
1)os
2) 3-4drive raid 0 (429mb/s) or (4 drive raid 5) (315mb/s)
3) 3-4 drive raid 0 or (4 drive raid 5)
spliting drive arrays reading 1 , writing better 1 single raid array (even 8- 12 drive one) (700-800mb/s)
unless doing uncompressed 10/12 bit 4-4-4 not need huge raid array
even raid 5/6 etc wise external source
esata/nas ever.
ymmv doubt it.

hi
i have configuration cs5: intel core i7 extreme, 12gb memory, gtx480:
1 - 1 - 300 gb os drive adobe master collection installed.
2 - 4 x 1tb = 4tb raid3 (areca arc-1680d-ix 12-ports sas raid controller)
i have 2 open plugs in areca raid controller.
if more 4 more 1tb drives should set two raid3's -- 1 raid "read" , other "for write"?
i assume approach. improve export time rendering time?
thanks
rowby
