Thread: Cloning entire drive w/ multiple partitions in one step

i have used gparted several times know how clone single partition. looking way clone , entire drive has several partitions, along withthe mrb, unpartitioned space , else in 1 step.

have 500 gb drive going out , want clone 1 tb drive don't have reinstall 3 different oss , fix grub. 1 of other oss on anther drive i'm not sure work if can clone exactly. i'm not sure if drive failing 1 mbr on or not.

know how in gparted or know program can run live cd this?

i have not copied or cloned drive believe reinstall better, safer & quicker. have seen users use dd there new drive became same size old drive , major effort required driver resized correct larger size. believe gparted copy partitions, not sure mbr. reinstalling grub easy.

think when have new large drive may time think how have things partitioned , plan use computer until buy drive. have lots of data new separate /home and/or /data partitions may worth having. thinking testing other systems? 20-25gb system partitions may worth allocating. if not sure not have partition system now.

if reinstalling can copy /home , preserve user files , settings. if still have old drive can check system wide settings in /etc (grub setting, networking, video etc). can export list of installed applications , reinstall.
