i assume uninstalling / disabling new package canonical-census have no adverse effects? not choose install if on offer, don't intend accepting stealth.

uploaded ubuntu lucid repository ubuntu 10.04 lts (and imagine appear shortly in maverick ubuntu 10.10) new package called canonical-census, marks initial release. curious package provides, did digging , found it's tracking ubuntu installations sending "i alive" ping canonical on daily basis.
canonical-census v0.1 description "canonical-census - send "i alive" ping canonical." when looking @ debian package source python program, "send "i alive" ping canonical. used surveying how many original oem installs still existing on real machines. note not send user specific data; transmits operating system
version (/var/lib/ubuntu_dist_channel), machine product name, , counter how many pings sent."
