Thread: Partitioning scheme (2 drives and win 7 dual boot)
hello,
have installed ubuntu thru wubi week ago , impressed of improvements since last time have installed it. format , repartition drive make proper installation of it. re-install win 7 of games till supported in distro (having issues asheron's call).
so, have seen lost thread here saying dual boot, 2 drive installation, should, on drive #1, put 50% win, 48% linux , 2% /swap, on second drive, partition files both os can access, 2% swap ( have linux advantage of swap on different drives) dont remember rest.
have 2 x 320 gb drives, on notebook, intel centrino duo quad core 2.0ghz, 4 gb ddr3, , nvidia gtx260m 1gb ddr3.
question is, scheme seems ok , missing ? (/boot, grub, /home etc...), order should or have go windows first partition live cd first ?
know way around in linux, can lot of things in , fix problems has arise or, find answer it. have been playing computer since daddy bought ti99-a , terminal not scare me off, attracks me so, should distro/flavor or go ubuntu , wait till wine support games still want play ?
off work rest of life thoracic outlet syndrome (see in signature if want know more , no, not give ) now, have lot of time invest linux , learn
thanx
you can create separate /boot /usr /home /var it's not needed.
suggestion based on you've posted, partition first drive 50% windows 50% linux (or whatever sizes want them. if you're not going store media files on linux partition, programs repos, etc. 20 gigs should plenty)
make swap partition 1.5x amount of ram have (you need hibernate/stand by) on second drive. make rest of second drive data. (ntfs or fat32 windows use remember fat32 can't store files larger 4gigs)
edit: there isn't reason make 2 swap partitions.
