Thread: Samba share denies write, smb.conf snippet included

thanks reading

i'm -slightly- advanced samba user. believe know basics of editing smb.conf , know use smbpasswd update samba users database.

have group of identical shares. readonly group @movies-play , (supposed be) writeable specific users. readonly group works great, no prob there, cannot write access specified users. in samba user database using smbpasswd -a mark , neelix.

here share section in smb.conf...

code:
[movies-usb3] path = /media/usb3/movies guest ok = no browseable = yes read = no read list = @movies-play write list = mark, neelix
i have workgroup , netbios info set. have security=user set. folder 'movies' in path above owned 'mark' seems should able write in can't.

i'm connecting share (it's on server running lucid) laptop (running lucid). added mount info fstab...

code:
//spock/movies-usb3  /media/spockmovies3  cifs  credentials=/home/mark/.smbpasswd  0  0
of course spock in hosts file resolves. can see share fine, can't write.

can guess might missing?

in advance expert advice. sure need

mark

my (somewhat old) samba unleashed book suggests "read = no" should make share writable not in @movies-play group.
perhaps you've seen this how-to.
