Thread: Newest kernel cant detect disks

i'm running ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, , latest kernel upgrade (xxxx.22) won't start system because can't find hard disks. ends prompt (initramfs).

computer has msi board intel p4 dual cpu, , phoenix award bios marked w7037 ims v1.2, dated 091604 (sep16/04).
doubt newer bios fix problem, if knows try find floppy drive , diskette, because require install newer bios (ver 1.3). 1 have better method?

anyway, there better solution problem? still possible previous kernel version until fix bug (if ever will)?

there way change boot sequence in grub2 original kernel default if rest of software has been updated?

since 10.04 has several bugs , annoyances, may it's time change distribution (i've tried mint 9, has of same, having enter password if take short break computer).

many questions @ once, less , less things functioning each new revision.
instance use scanner must go 8.04, or use windows! (the scanner reason why have windows on computer)

at end of bios process, hold "shift" key down see thr grub menu; there select original kernel boot, synaptic, update sources , remove/purge broken kernel (each related package: header, image, lbm if any) reinstall it

if want see grub menu, edit config file:

sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

, change " grub_hidden_timeout_quiet" false,
then
sudo update-grub

startup-manager can tweak grub menu order if installed
