accessing another mysql database - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i assuming may need sort of extension or addon probably.
but directions if has ran before.

i pretty new joomla. have site , working fine.
i insert php (which figured out how adding directphp plugin)
which access database (myfiles, not in jos_ database) , table (still in same domain)
i error when trying use access database

any suggestions?

maybe not explaining myself quite right.

i have regular joomla 1.5 install. have regular database called "joomla" in mysql. has regular (about 40) tables named jos_***

from can tell breaks joomla when try connect database , table outside of joomla database. know if possible? or need create custom tables inside of joomla database? tried , seems work.

i hoping keep non-joomla data in separate database. keep things organized better.

any help?
let me know if need explain better.

cf_sql_integer vs cf_sql_bigint vs cf_sql_int??

i have id (primary key) set bigint in sql server. have query following: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_integer" value="#url.id#"> i got invalid data type it. tried: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_bigint" value="#url.id#"> i still got invalid data type it. tried: where whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_int" value="#url.id#"> and worked. the weird thing cf_sql_int not listed being accepted: http://www.adobe.com/livedocs/coldfusion/5.0/cfml_reference/tags79.htm can explain me. > whateverid = <cfqueryparam cfsqltype="cf_sql_bigint" value="#url.id#"> what value of #url.id#? had no problems either using cf8. > weird thing cf_sql_int not listed being accepted: iirc, when pass in invalid sql type cf uses default: cf_sql_char, accepts anything. ms sql implicit convert() right type , why works.
