Thread: What time is it - really?

i've seen posts similar in ubuntu forums. but, i've never seen give definitive answer on why happens - or when/how fixed. here goes.

have two-hard-drive dual-boot system. winxp pro sp3 on secondary drive, ubuntu 10.04 on primary drive. i've noticed weirdness before. time, did 3 test-boots.

first, keep in mind i'm in pacific time zone in usa.

boot #1 - booted winxp. time on system clock 10:42 pm, august 4th.

boot #2 - restarted computer , booted ubuntu. when first screen came up, system timeclock set 3:42 pm, august 4th - 7 hours earlier real time. however, when entered ring password (and after few seconds), system timeclock on screen "jumped" real time - 10:42 pm, august 4th.

boot #3 - restarted computer , booted winxp. time on system clock said 5:45 am, august 5th - 7 hours ahead of real time.

did test "re-boots" in winxp. long didn't boot ubuntu, time remained correct. once booted ubuntu again, same scenario mentioned above repeated itself.

and, did test "re-boots" ubuntu. long didn't boot winxp, time remained correct.

idea heck going on here? there "fix" this?

just brief ps last post.

last post made in winxp environment. i'm in ubuntu environment , did 1 more test. time, when prompted enter password, sat , waited full minute. timeclock dropped 7 hours , sat there well. wasn't until entered password , "logged on" desktop timeclock reverted correct time.

so, ubuntu issue ... not winxp issue.
