Thread: Need help with modem and sound

hello,
new user of ubuntu karmic on pentium 4 gateway model # 7330gz 512 memory. tired of problems windows, tried many, many attempts install ubuntu 10.04 , have black screen. gave , installed karmic. however, can not modem (to send faxes) or sound work. installed efax-gtk , following response. 1 of many different responses.

i have tried , tried no avail work. used scanmodem, still no help. modem information
